Health Surveillance
Monitor and maintain the health and safety of your workforce with early detection of specific health risks within their work.
Health surveillance, otherwise known as occupational health surveillance, involves a series of employee health checks over time to help protect them from health risks at work and detect any potential ill health effects as early as possible.
We work with our clients to ensure that workplace risks are effectively managed to provide a safe working environment for your staff. Response Occupational Health will support you to control those risks and limit the effect of potential long term health issues.

Our health surveillance services
Health Surveillance protects the health of employees by early detection of any adverse changes to their health during their employment or baseline screening at the start of their employment. Occupational health assessments & screenings we provide include:
- Audiometry (hearing)
- Spirometry (lung function)
- Eye tests
- Hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS) screening & assessments
- Night shift workers health assessments
- General health surveillance
- Dermatology / Skin Surveillance Screening
- Driver screening medical
- Isocyanate testing
- Safety critical assessments (Ionising radiation, asbestos, lead worker)
- Confined space medicals
Health surveillance checks, screenings, assessments and tests are carried out in order to determine if the measures you have in place to reduce risk are working effectively. If the current health and safety measures in place aren’t working, health surveillance can identify this, and our team can help you implement a comprehensive health surveillance policy that works for your company.

Does your business require health surveillance?
Health checks & surveillance is required by law for any employees that are exposed to noise, vibration, ionising radiation, chemicals, dust, fumes, biological agents, solvents, or hazardous substances, or work in certain job roles such as drivers, HGV drivers, offshore workers and safety critical work. In roles without exposure to above hazards, health surveillance can be carried out by any business as good practice and contributes to your legal duty of care.
The HSE states that if you expose employees to any sort of hazard, you must reduce the risk as far as reasonably practicable. Make sure your business remains compliant with all relevant regulations by getting in touch with our UK occupational health specialists today.
Importance of Employee Health Surveillance
- Detect ill-health effects at an early stage so employees can be treated, and employers can control measures to prevent health from worsening
- Provides data to help employers evaluate health risks and how to control them
- Enables employees to raise concerns through an assessment about how work affects their physical and mental health
- Highlights lapses in workplace control measures, therefore providing invaluable feedback to the risk assessment
- Providing an opportunity to reinforce training and education of employees, e.g the use of PPE (personal protective equipment)

Tier 2: Annual Screening Questionnaire intended to monitor any changes over the baseline questionnaire
Tier 3: Assessment by a qualified occupational health specialist
Tier 4: Formal diagnosis
Tier 5: Further standardised tests (optional)
